Chimney removal: is it right for your property?
A redundant chimney is an ongoing maintenance cost you may not need. We weigh up when taking a stack down makes sense — and when it doesn't.
Why people remove chimneys
Many Leicester homes have chimneys that haven't been used for a fire in decades. They still need repointing, flashing, pots and pots covers — and they take up valuable loft and roof space. Removing a redundant stack removes the maintenance bill for good.
When removal isn't the answer
If your chimney is structurally sound, serves a working fireplace, or is part of a shared stack with a neighbour, removal may not be suitable. We'll always tell you honestly — if a repair is the better option, that's what we'll quote you for.
How we take a chimney down
We strip the stack down brick by brick, carefully and safely from the scaffold. The opening is then roofed over cleanly with new tiles, underfelt and battens tied into the surrounding roof, finished to the 2026 roofing standards we work to on every project.
Making good the roof
Removal is only half the job. The roof has to be made weathertight where the stack was, with no weak points. We finish the area so it blends in with the rest of the roof — you'd never know a chimney had been there.
